Just a reminder to everyone that the band Owl City is playing tomorrow night in Nashville. They will be at the Rocketown venue @ 7:00. So if all you Memphis/Nashville friends are free you should make the drive to come see the show!

The start of this week has been a really awful and sad ordeal for me. Which is why I'm so glad to be going to this show tomorrow. Owl City has a way of lifting your spirits and making you feel amazing, even after some of the worst days. Lord knows I need it right now.

I promise I'll explain what's been happening when I get home. However at this moment, all I want to think about is having a good time and dancing at the show tomorrow night.

"Summer vacation" is over. Even though I'm no longer in school, I still feel the same foreboding feeling that comes around the start of August. That things are coming to an end, and other things are beginning.

As soon as I got back from Colorado, at the end of July, I started the job hunt process. I've found most of the design firms in the Memphis area already have a full print design staff so unless I wanna change my career to strictly web design it's gonna be a tough hunt. I had a job interview with a company called Joyce Signs on the 12th. The interview went really well and I'm hopeful...but I won't hear back from them until the beginning of September.

That's a long wait. Luckily I'm still working at my family's bookstore about 20hrs a week, which should hold me over until I find something. I'll keep my fingers crossed. In the meantime, I've been working on orders as a member of the Owl City Street Team. For those who have never heard of Owl City, it is led mainly by musician Adam Young. The sound is beautifully imaginative pop, that's full of bright lights and color. It makes you smile and dance whenever you hear it :). Most of my duties deal with creative ways to promote the music.

ok, so I actually typed part of this entry out last month, but have been so busy with trying to graduate that I never got around to posting it, so I shall finish it now as well as updates on life and so forth as of now:

I was lazily surfing around on the net while waiting for some customers to check out up front @ the bookstore when I unfortunately saw this lj post by binsybaby. It was a collection of animated gifs and pictures making fun of Twilight. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I enjoy making fun of Twlight. I should have known better than to read this at work, due to emmy's uncanny ability to make me laugh,but I couldn't help myself.

So pretty much what happened was I nearly cried in front of my customers because I was trying so hard to contain my laughter.

ok, so now back to May 9th, 2009. 11:00 on the dot. I am officially graduated. I walked down the aisle, shook the President's hand, and recieved my diploma (or actually the case you put you're diploma in until they mail it to you, but you get the idea) all without falling or my hat falling off. On Thursday I took part in my senior class's design show. It went well, I talked to alot of people and I appreciated all the friends and family that came out to see me :) :) Lots of pictures were taken, so I'll definately upload them sometime next week.

It's a weird feeling. I'm so relieved to be done, but I am going to miss school and all my design class/friends alot. I'm scared about going out to search for a job, but also hopeful and excited about it. It'll be a new chapter to my life, and finally a chance to do some of the things I havn't been able to do because of school. I guess we'll see how it goes, but I think I'll relax for a couple of weeks first.

I'm baby-sitting this thing for the next week and a half:

this album actually came out last year, but I'm posting both of these videos b/c Gravity's video was just released. Almost everyone has seen or heard her single "Love Song" on the radio. I can't get enough of Sara's style and class. All the bright colors and lights, and how she uses the environment around her to express the lyrics in the video (you see this more in Gravity). love love love it all.

A new semester filled with uncertainties is here
I'm taking a few steps forward into uncharted territory
Towards things that could easily go from pleasant to
Icy depending on how I step.

I'm welcoming and praying for the challenges ahead
despite how risky and scared I may be to do so.
and taking more chances when it comes to people.

There's so many more things I want to learn after I graduate!
I want to make pottery
Learn how to blow glass
carve huge wood sculptures
continue violin lessons
speak Japanese fluently
take a class at range masters & get licensed
and my mom keeps having a reoccurring dream that we are supposed to take oil painting
classes at singleton

there is so many boxed up things that I haven’t opened yet
and we don't live long enough to discover them all
or we limit ourselves and make excuses why we cannot reach them
A life without change is unmemorable and boring

typing them here makes me feel so much more at ease,
so I will not forget things I want to do.

I put a small notebook in my purse tonight
It's a clean and new slate.
I've always wanted to carry one for those moments
where you see, hear, smell, touch, or taste something and want to document it right away
yet when you get home you've forgotten and it's gone.
I want to remember.

It's so cold outside & I am in love with it. Despite the fact I was called into work today, there is just something crisp about leaving a bookstore into the night air that makes me tingle. It also gave me an excuse to buy a leather jacket today. and drink hot tea outside.

Know what else is nice? Having a weekend that doesn't involve slaving in the art lab till midnight. I love my major but I've never had my weekends sucked away like i have this semester. It's been several weekends in a row since I've actually felt relaxed or relatively cheerful in manner. I hate driving but I catch myself feeling like I should be just out of habit. So I'm trying to remind myself that I like having chill time. This is a rare and fleeting moment and I should be savoring the fact I have nothng to do.

I also can't pull myself away from my new Dell XPS. It's so freaking fast compared to my old computer (known as Clunker) and I've loaded it with a 9 cell lithium battery and a ton of memory and hard drive space. I now have a video card so nice I can finally become an online gamer again without my computer wanting to commit suicide. I installed all my adobe programs today and it hardly took any space. To Clunker it would have been an atomic bomb. Just Beautiful. Only thing that sucks is I can't transfer my music until I get an external hardrive, pretty much 17GB of music took up my old computers space, which is a pretty huge file to transfer.

Christmas is gonna have to come a little earlier. : )

Is anyone doing anything exciting for Halloween? I can't decide if I wanna party it up or not. Most of my Halloween party experiences have been horrible and I want to forget them, it would be nice to go to one and actually have a good time.

Play Till You Pass Out

Sometimes I worry about my boss Chung-Yu at the violin shop. He doesn't take care of himself at all & my co-worker, Thomas, and I are afraid he's going to work himself to death. Today I come into work and start finishing the mailing list that we're sending out to music universities across the US (ones with violin, viola, & cello programs anyway)

so he's standing there talking to me and working on the email to attach to the mailing list when he stands up and ALMOST FALLS OVER. I freaked out & he explained he hasn't really eaten anything today because he drives from Arkansas early Thursday mornings to get to work on time.

I make him go out & eat since he has an appointment in an hour.
Everything is cool, he's busy with appointments for the rest of the afternoon, then at around 5:00ish, the same thing happens AGAIN, after his appointment leaves. The man has another appointment in 30 minutes but he won't cancel because he's too nice and loves people.

I left him with Thomas when I got off at 6:00, and prayed the whole way home that he didn't pass out in front of the clients. I worry because his family lives in Arkansas, so if something happened and Thomas and I weren't there I don't think anyone would know.

poor man needs a break. There's no way I could do what he does, I probably would pass out from stress.

He did show me something pretty cool today. The parents of one of his students sent him a video of their daughter's violin recitals in Washington. The girl is 8 years old and is currently playing one of Chung Yu's 5/8 size violins.

The song she plays, Fisherman Festival Song, is so beautiful. It really brings out the cheerful bold tone of his violins. This girl is like a musical prodigy, she has dancing & piano videos too:

another night up till 3:00, good morning folks.

I'm trying to get myself out of this hermit-state that I've put myself in lately. I had one of those horrible colds that you sometimes get in the summer that lasted for about 2 weeks, and each evening after work I just came home and went to bed right away.
Now, it's finally gone and I can't seem to get motivated to call my friends. So if you read this please try to get me out of my cold recovery funk and out of my house.
On a happy note, while I've been sick I discoved a hilarious anime called Lovely Complex. Finally a romantic comedy that isn't typically predictable. I'm tired of fluff anime where all the romance seems like fantasy and you as the viewer can't relate to it at all. Now that Avatar is over, I've been looking for something good. The situations in this one feel more real and believable, it's quite charming and I'm completely addicted until I know what happens next. Plus it makes me laugh so hard I actually cry---I mean look at these faces:

ahhhaahahaha >-<. *breathe*. They make me laugh randomly all day. People gave me looks in the mall, it was wonderful.

My mom is out of town tonight and my dad is out rambling around the house because he is a worry wart. I don't think he knows I can hear his footsteps in the kitchen, its really disturbing; like a ghost. Mom isn't sick or lost or anything but whenever she's not at home, he always looks like he's lost. I guess it should be sweet but I'm not used to seeing my dad like that--he's always so tough and loud and the boss of the entire house all the time. If mom wasn't here to break us up everytime we fight I think he would fall to pieces. He needs to go to bed, I'm already having enough problems sleeping.

I made my very first animation in flash today, nothing exciting but I'm glad to finally start experimenting with that program if I'm ever going to make anything with it. It was alot of fun >^-^<

this summer I'm going to try to keep this poor little neglected journal alive, if anything, one breath of something once a week.

I have a few things I could put up right now, but I think I'll divide them into seperate posts. These are photos from Katrina Relief in New Orleans. To make any of the pictures bigger, just click on them

Entrance to the 9th ward, where there was the most damage.

There are still abandoned and damaged houses everywhere. It's almost been three years, why is this city still broken? You can see how high the water damage was to this house based on errosion of this door.

In the 9th Ward there are tons of concrete slabs where houses used to be

Here's a few sketches done in the past few days; ya know, when I was supposed to be doing homework. The first four are from a movement sketch done for AnimaRPG--the character is Aang from Avatar (which is one of the best cartoons I've seen in awhile)--I've got about 50 sketches of him finished like these, but I think if I tried to scan them all right now my scanner would burst into flame. My scanner is also manipulating anything in color---so until thats fixed I'm gonna wait to post color sketches and pictures and whatnot. Guess these will do for now? Maybe I'll post some more stuff soon? Maybe? HAH.

Today is my day off from work.

I'm sitting here looking at all these
pictures that have built up on my camera of recent summer events
and thinking how I should probably share them.

Its strange how I have spent so many wonderful days with friends that mean so much to me. Then the next week I'm slaving away at different jobs; not realizing I've become unsocial and drifting away from them unintentionally. I'm almost a different person: I will not answer my phone, nor will I call or talk to anyone after I get home. At the time I don't feel guilty about this at all, I just don't feel up for social confrontations, even little ones. Its terrible, and I now feel bad for it, but this week that'll change. I'll be clocking out by 6:00 or 7:00 and I would love to spend my evenings creating memorable moments with friends before I sell my soul to work again next week.

Could you guys help me with this? It would mean so much!

On another note, I have lots of artwork to show as well. It'll have to wait till another post though cuz this one is already too big with pictures haha :-p

First off, this is Jen. We're married. Heterosexual soulmates or something like that. She's pretty much my other half and sometimes we're so similar its creepy. So get used to seeing her haha.

The Invisible Children Global Night Commute: An amazing overnight experience that gives voice to the children of Uganda. If you wanna know more about it, just ask---the more volunteers the better for the movement! Some people from the staff recently emailed me asking for some freelance graphics work, so I sent them some stuff. I really hope they could use me in that field, I put alot of heart into the artwork we painted with our letters that night.

Anathallo! These pictures are from two of the three shows Jen and I traveled too in one month. I've seen these guys four times and it makes me so happy they toured in the area for so long. They have such an inspiring sound I cannot even begin to try to describe cuz it wouldn't even give them justice--Not to mention they are real down to earth people who love to make conversation with you after the show

The Rockies are in my backyard!
I explored them this morning
and took pictures with my crappy digital camera
Really, the quality doesn't due the nature justice
(although some of them are from yesterday too)
I'm gonna go back tomorrow with my Uncle to actually
get some pictures with me in them too for my family,
its kinda hard to get yourself in a picture while climbing a huge rock

I figured out how to get rid of the annoying dates in the
right hand corners. Although now that I think about it...the dates are important, ya know?

Today I climbed a mountain.
Its was breathtaking, indescribable,...Godly I swear
I literally can't think of anything to say except
GO CLIMB ONE. NOW. EVERYONE STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND CLIMB A MOUNTAIN.
I've never felt more insignificant and smaller in my life
Halfway up it lightly started to snow
The rest of the world slowed down
My Uncle and I dangled there and watched
as helpless as dolls; chatting about the view
A pasteled sunrise or yellows, pink, and orange
until our fingers felt warm enough to continue
Our spirits were on fire
and when we reached the top
I screamed, "I'm Alive!"
He screamed,...well he didn't say anything
He just yelled and danced around
Then we ate lunch on the edge of the rocks
My whole body hurts but the pain is so worth it

I'm thinking bout drawing some of the experience. Then painting it in watercolor

Its so exciting, I've always wanted to live with wolves or take care of them. Having a dream in mind of going to Alaska and taking pictures of them in the wild, and painting, and drawing EVERYTHING; not just the wolves. So just getting to be able to help out at a wolf shelter sounds liberating to me. Plus for the first time in years, wild wolves are being spotted in Colorado. Researchers think they might be migrating in from Canada. I wanna see one so bad...
